History

The past Titletown Bike Tours had annual participation of 400 - 626 who rode 15, 35, 55, 80, or 100 kilometers. Each participant and volunteer received an official T-shirt to commemorate the event.

Fruit, cookies, homemade quick breads and desserts, water, and Gatorade were distributed at each of the five refreshment stations located throughout the routes. Good Humor frozen treats were distributed at the end of the tour. After the ride, local professional massage associations donated massages.

Last year WBAY-TV hosted our televised public service announcements and taped coverage for that evening's newscast. WIXX & WTAQ Radio teamed with us for our radio public service coverage. Signs hailing the major sponsors, contributors and in-kind donors were clearly posted at the rest stops and the start-finish area. Likewise, regular and frequent announcements of benefactors were made over our donated public address system.

Financially, we have been very pleased with the results for our past events. Total receipts from sponsors, participants and donors resulted in donations in access of $300,000 to support local programs and projects.

  • $60,000 donated to the American Cancer Society designated for cancer research and use in mid-Wisconsin.
  • $5,000 donated to St. Vincent Cancer Center to fund a two-year subscription to the Cancer Help Institute Computer Service, which provides patients and families easy access to relevant, up-to-date information from the National Cancer Institute.
  • $5,000 donated to St. Vincent Cancer Center to fund experimental treatment programs and for CD players in the Pediatrics Ward.
  • Over $200,000 donated to the Breast Cancer Family Foundation funding healthy lifestyle educational programs and cancer awareness to teens and adults in Northeast Wisconsin.

Comments and rider survey sheets indicated that almost everyone will return for the 2008 tour and many stated they would tell friends and help promote it. Because of our past success, we are anticipating over 700 riders for the 2008 event.
